GRAND KNIGHT’S COLUMN
Brother Knights, Vivat
Our November Meeting greeted 24 Brother Knights with
pizza and refreshments at 6:30 and the meeting started promptly at 7. We
“got er done” in an hour and a half and made great progress on many fronts.
You have probably already received, in the mail, your Membership Card for
the next Fraternal Year. Included were two requests for Donation. First the
“Take Ten Program” that supports all the Charities that our Michigan State K
of C supports. The second is for the “Sacred Heart Major Seminary
Scholarship Fund”. This helps Seminarians with financial challenges they
face during their journey to Priesthood. As I sat and signed all the
Membership Cards, I tried to put a Face with a Name. We have so many Members
that I have never met. I’m reaching out to all YOU faceless names. I know
the majority of you have respect and appreciation for the many great things
our Council does. But we need YOUR HELP! Please set aside the second
Wednesday of December and come to our meeting and wish us all a Merry
There were a few handouts at this meeting. We have some
new “Contact Cards” that are an easy handout to prospective Catholic Men you
know that may be interested in joining our ranks. The Minutes from the
October Meeting were made available as well as our Calendar of Events
through the rest of the fraternal year. We were finally able to vote on and
approve the Budget for this Fraternal Year. We still have the handout for
the Rewarding Experience from Consumers Energy, an opportunity to lower your
Utilities Bill. Consumers Energy has extended an opportunity to have a Home
Energy Analysis done on your home. At that time they will install “at no
cost to you” high-efficiency shower heads, kitchen and bathroom faucet
aerators, water heater pipe wrap, and more. They estimate that your annual
savings will be around $150.00 a year. I had it done at my house and was
very pleasantly surprised and happy with my new shower heads. You can call
989-598-1267 use promocode STMARGARET18 and schedule an appointment. For the
last time we had the handout for the Advent Retreat. The K of C is
sponsoring their First Advent Annual retreat to be held at St. Paul Retreat
House on December 7-9. Depending when you receive this, you might still have
time to attend.
We had our Veterans Mass on November 11th and it was
spectacular! The Church was packed and the Color Corps from our 4th Degree
was awe inspiring. There was a video before and after Mass that was put
together by our Treasurer Fred Kuplicki. It brought tears to many. After
Mass and after the video, there was a Narrated Flag Folding Ceremony done by
the Color Corps that was as professional as it gets. There will be a CD
available for a donation that will show the video and the Flag Folding
Ceremony. (Information to follow)
Our Annual Memorial Mass will be on November 18. Prior
to the beginning of Mass, we will read the names of deceased members from
the 3rd Degree, 4th Degree and the Daughters of Isabella.
There is still time to Sponsor a Christmas Basket. If you know a Family that
is in need at this special time of year, please bring the registration form
to the December meeting so we can be Honored & Blessed to support. Brother
Knights, please bring can goods to the December Meeting to be distributed in
our Christmas Baskets.
Our Worthy District Deputy Ken Warzybok wished us greetings
from our State Officers. He went on to talk about the Take 10 Program and
the Endowment fund and all the Good Works both these programs do.
Our Council had a 1st Degree here at St. Margaret on October
29th, and we welcomed one new Brother Knight to our Council. Welcome Brother
Knight Mark VanGheluwe. Our next degree is on December 17th, and if you
haven’t attended any Degrees for a while, please feel free to attend. It is
always great to revisit our rich history.
The Faithful Navigator of our 4th Degree John Zelmanski
gave his report and invitation for any and all 3rd Degree Knights to join
the 4th Degree. This Patriotic Degree is one of the greatest assets of the K
of C and as a new Member of the 4th Degree, I extend an Invitation to all
Brother Knights to Join. We are pleased that the 4th Degree is Donating all
the Perishables for our Christmas Baskets.

had only been there.
In Closing I Thank all my Brother KNIGHTS who participate in the many
programs and events our Council is involved in. I continue to invite all my
Brother Knights to become more involved in the meetings, many programs and
events our Council sponsors. Just ask a Brother Knight if he enjoyed the
last Event he Volunteered for Committed to and Showed Up for.
Sincerely & Humbly Your Grand Knight Paul Desjardins, Vivat Jesus
